The BEPC Programmable Linear Measurement Solution allows for the selection of the encoder type (absolute or programmable incremental), output type or protocol, measuring wheel type and size, optional mounting bracket, and optional programming kit (for the programmable incremental encoder). This wide array of component choices permit a flexible, robust measurement solution that can be fine tuned to meet the exact requirements of your application.
PLMS Step 1: Start with your spring loaded mounting bracket
Spring loaded mounting bracket

This spring loaded mounting bracket fits 2.5” (63.5mm) shafted encoders with servo mounts, and 58 mm shafted encoders with clamping flanges. It allows convenient application of an encoder and measuring wheel solution directly to a surface being measured. The bracket features a torsion spring, adjustable to up to 10 lbs of force, which permits the encoder and measuring wheel to be mounted in almost any orientation, even upside down. The single pivot action allows the assembly to adjust travel and wheel pressure for variations in material height. All units in inches and mm unless otherwise noted.

PLMS Step 3: Select your measuring wheel
Measuring Wheels
British Encoder Products Company offers to measure wheels in four different contact surfaces, all made of high-grade aluminum alloy. For more information on choosing the right measuring wheel for your application, refer to our Measuring Wheels Datasheet and also our Technical Bulletin TB-108 Encoders with Measuring Wheels. Please specify 3/8″ as the bore size to match encoder chosen above.
Rubber Insert
Rubber insert wheels have less surface area in contact with the material, so more pressure is applied, resulting in less slippage. Rubber insert wheels are good for materials such as (but not limited to): paper, film, foil, hard plastic, and other smooth materials.
Polyurethane
This smooth, versatile material comes in different durometer ratings (that is, degrees of hardness). Polyurethane is good for materials such as (but not limited to): metal pipe, sandpaper, matting, cardboard/packaging, belting, insulated wire, metal, etc.
Knurled Aluminium
Knurled aluminium offers good traction, but should not be used with delicate materials. It is a good choice for materials such as (but not limited to): metal pipe, sandpaper, matting, cardboard/packaging, belting, insulated wire, metal, coarse fabric, cloth tape, rubber, rough wood, carpet, foam, insulation, or other rugged materials that won’t damage easily from constant contact with the wheel.
Hard Anodized Knurled Aluminium
Anodizing hardens the aluminium and prevents corrosion, so these wheels are good for harsh environments where there may be a washdown or exposure to corrosive elements. These wheels are also not meant for delicate materials, and are excellent for materials such as (but not limited to): coarse fabric, wood (i.e., lumber cut-to-length), or other durable materials.

Angled Mounting Bracket

This bracket simplifies installation of your linear measurement solution. Designed specifically for BEPC products, this bracket allows you to mount and install your encoder, bracket, and measuring wheel quickly and easily, without having to design, machine, or source a mounting solution .
USB Programming Kit
